Our Services…

Dime Diagnostic offers a wide variety of imaging services.  In fact, because of our specialized clinical training and 35+ years of experience, we’re uniquely qualified to perform ultrasound procedures for many applications, including:

  • Abdominal – including the liver, kidneys, gall bladder, spleen, and pancreas
  • Pelvic – including the uterus, uterine fibroids, ovaries, prostate, and bladder – including postvoid residual urine volume (PVD),
  • Obstetrical – including 4D ultrasound
  • Vascular – including arterial and venous Doppler, carotid artery, aorta, and mapping of varicose veins, also transcranial Doppler (TCD) and renal artery duplex scans for renal artery stenosis, and Ankle/Brachial Index test (ABI)
  • Breast – including evaluation of breast nodules and breast pain
  • Thyroid imaging

What to Expect…

An ultrasound procedure uses high-frequency sound waves to “map” a variety of organs and tissues. The sound cannot be heard by humans and the exam is painless and non-invasive.

You’ll lie comfortably on an examination table while your sonographer performs the examination. A small, handheld device (called a transducer), will be passed over your skin in the area of interest. To assist in producing the best images possible, a water-based gel is applied to the transducer and your skin. The gel is kept warm for your comfort.

In certain cases (such as pelvic examinations), special internal probes are required to obtain the high-quality, detailed images desired.

Frequently Asked Questions…

What is an ultrasound?

Ultrasound uses very high-frequency sound waves that reflect off of tissue in your body to make images of organs, tissue and blood vessels in your body. Ultrasound has no known side effects and is very safe. While most people associate ultrasound with imaging during pregnancy, examinations can be used in many ways to help evaluate a variety of conditions.

How long will my ultrasound exam take?

The time required will vary by the type of examination required, but as a general rule, you can expect your exam to last 30-60 minutes.

Is there any prep required for my ultrasound?

In general, it’s a good idea to wear comfortable clothing to your examination. Specific prep may be required by you based on the type of ultrasound ordered by your doctor. Dime Diagnostic’s staff will make you aware of any special prep required prior to your appointment.

How does an ultrasound compare to a MRI or CT scan?

Unlike CT scans, ultrasound examinations do not use radiation for imaging. Also, ultrasound examinations do not require contrast agents. Ultrasound exams typically cost much less than a CT or MRI.
Physicians may order a combination of these exams because each offers unique insight and they can complement each other.

Can you tell me the results of my ultrasound during the examination?

No. The technician who performs your exam is not permitted to provide or discuss results. Your images will be evaluated by a supervising Radiologist and we will send a full report to your doctor within 24 hours.
